The Community and Culture

Situated on the scenic shore of Long Island Sound between Bridgeport and Stamford, this quintessential, yet modern and diverse town of 30 square miles has a population of ~60,000. Fairfield Connecticut's historic roots reach back to 1639, when its vast sweep of salt marsh inspired the subsequent naming of both the town and its county. Rebuilt after being torched by the British in the Revolutionary War, treasured traces of its Colonial past remain within this suburban coastal town. Along the 8 miles of coastline, you will find 5 public beaches in Fairfield Connecticut. Within the town of Fairfield, the quaint village of Southport is perched over the harbor dotted with boats and a private sailing club. It is truly scenic sophistication on Long Island Sound.

Fairfield Museum and History Center offers year-round programs

The Fairfield Museum and History Center offers a wide range of activities for children and adults, including ever-changing gallery exhibits throughout the year. The Regina Quick Center, at Fairfield University, presents a full schedule of musical, dance and theatrical events, lectures, student productions and summer theater camps for children. The Edgerton Center for Performing Arts, at Sacred Heart University, also provides an active cultural calendar. Through the center, university students also participate in an educational collaboration with Connecticut Children's Theatre—Connecticut's only year-round professional theatre company dedicated to children pre-school to grade 3. The Art/Place Gallery, a not-for-profit artist-run gallery, has been in existence for over 35 years. The gallery's exhibits change every month and it now shares space with the popular Fairfield Theatre Company, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a broad spectrum of live entertainment at its two venues—The Warehouse and Stage One.

Excellence in education is the watchword of the Fairfield Connecticut’s Public School system, with its 11 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 2 high schools, servings over 10,000 students. Fairfield CT also offers many fine private schools and is home to Fairfield University and Sacred Heart University. 

Recreational Facilities

Recreational opportunities abound at the town of Fairfield’s parks and playgrounds with programs for soccer, track/field, all weather tennis, golf, sailing, swimming, boating, skating, baseball, football, basketball, and bocce. Fairfield CT has several options for indoor and outdoor tennis, both public and private facilities and also for golf with a 36 hole, 18 hole and par 3 course.

Lake Mohegan, Fairfield CT offers lifeguarded swimming and sprinkler park

The town's 115-acre Lake Mohegan affords summer swimming and winter skating plus year-round hiking on surrounding trails. Within Fairfield CT there are 5 pristine beaches to choose from: Jennings, Penfield, South Pine Creek, Southport and Sasco—all supervised by trained lifeguards from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. Boating facilities at South Benson Marina and Pequot Yacht Club in Southport provide moorings, slips and storage. The quaint downtown offers an array of restaurants, outdoor cafes and plenty of boutique shopping .

Transportation

Metro North commuter rail service accesses Manhattan, NY from three stations in the town of Fairfield CT. Interstate Route 95 and the Merritt Parkway are driving options for commuters. Neighboring city of Bridgeport provides ferry service to Port Jefferson, Long Island, NY.
