~ Q & A with Karen ~

Why did you choose real estate as a career?

I would say, real estate chose me. My agents, who became my mentors, encouraged me to become a Realtor. When I moved to Westport, my agent was relentless with me to get my CT license and as they say, the rest is history!

What is your most memorable real estate transaction?

That’s a tough question, as transactions differ in personality, if you will. And when you think you have experienced it all, another transaction closes and presents you with one more memorable experience. For me, it is personal...knowing you really helped a client with one or some of the biggest financial decisions of their lives.

What do clients love most
about working with you and
the KMS Team?

They love the personalized attention of their lead agent and the service they receive from the supporting cast. We are all different in our personalities, but we share the same client-centric goals. In the end, our clients realize how beneficial a team is for their successful real estate transactions. And we are fun to work with!

What is your favorite outing in the main communities
served by the KMS Team?

Westport—anything centered around the beach, in any season—long walks, sunset dinners/cocktails, paddle boarding, ice skating.
Weston—the most gorgeous town in the fall to hike, bike ride, or take a country drive.
Fairfield—Dogwood festival in the spring. The Greenfield Hill blooms remind us how beautiful this area is.
Norwalk—golf along the water at Shorehaven Country Club
Wilton—the great outdoors and finding treasures at the annual springtime Minks to Sinks sale

And advice for your
selling client?

If you could give one short piece of advice to your buying client?

Location, location, location! It might be beneficial to consider doing “some work.” In the long term, making edits to a house may be a better investment. Also trust your Realtor—we are extremely knowledgeable about inventory, current markets, pricing, etc. We know more than Zillow!
You decided to sell your home...it is now a house. Embrace ideas to change your home into a “house for sale”—de-clutter, de-personalize, stage, listen to buyer feedback and be patient. We all want a successful outcome!

How have you seen the market change in
your time as a broker?

Like many trading markets, there are ups and downs, trends, outside factors, climate changes, etc. They ebb and flow. The wealth of public information clients have is incredible and continuously increasing and It impacts decision making more than ever. The plethora of information can be daunting and paralyzing in making decisions or it can be informative and reassuring. I’m grateful to have the client base I do. It is my pleasure to help my clients navigate the prevailing winds in today’s real estate market.

What do you wish you
knew when you sold
your first home?

What do you wish you
knew when you bought
your first home?

Our first home is still my favorite home, no regrets there. We were young and listened to our agent, mortgage lender, the professionals and they all guided us well. I also knew the minute we walked into the door that we were buying that home. I wasn’t afraid to “trust my instinct” and let emotion take over.

I didn’t know much, so I am thankful we had our agent guiding us! Just like buying our first house, we listened to her on pricing, timing, prepping for sale, etc. I practiced what I now preach! We always sold our houses, in a day, with multiple offers. Luck? Good timing? Maybe, but I’m grateful for the spot-on advice that set us up for success.
